RED BANK — Amber James, a student at Red Bank Regional High School, attended a three-week program at Cornell University and also participated in the College to Career: Opportunities to Explore program at the university's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences this summer.
Sixty high school students from across the country are exploring the college's majors, careers and research opportunities while earning college credit. During their one or three weeks at Cornell, students attend classes, tour campus, visit research facilities, participate in field trips, live on campus, and meet current students and faculty.
The intent of the program is to help students learn about what college courses and experiences will help them prepare for a career within the college's four priority areas: agricultural and food science, applied social sciences, environmental sciences, and the life sciences.
The event, which is open to the public, is sponsored by Neptune Township Sons of American Legion Squadron 346 to raise funds to support its SAL Charities program. The event features rock and blues music, a dance floor, free snacks and a cash bar.
The following teen issues will be discussed: Internet safety, eating disorders, self-image, skin care, substance abuse, self-defense and dating relationships.
EATONTOWN — The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County is sponsoring a free evening program that will demonstrate the personal experience of psychotherapy in a group setting.
The 90-minute evening programs will include ideas for handling life situations effectively, opportunities to resolve personal problems, questions and answers about improving relationships, personal effectiveness, and overcoming fears, guilts and resentments.
Psychologist David Landy, Ph.D., will facilitate the programs, which will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 19 and Nov. 16 at the Presbyterian Church, 352 Sycamore Ave., Shrewsbury.
